Transgender Awareness Week 2022

Welcome to Trans Awareness Week x Ballroom workshop which will be held at Bergen Kjøtt we are excited to bring Kabootz from Sweden. To educate us about the different categories of ballroom and to focus on Runway and Vogue Femme.

It’s really important to understand what Ballroom is at its core. There’s a set of clear criteria they are judging against in each category. Ballroom has also evolved its own dance genre called Voguing, and its own Ballroom music genre which sonically interacts with the dance form. There is also a whole set of Ballroom specific lingo; terms and phrases that have evolved within the scene over time. The Houses do not just exist to compete within the Ballroom performance setting, the Balls give the houses a kind of mutual purpose but they are deeply bonded queer kinship and chosen family structures set up for the mutual support and stability of individuals within each house.
