Welcome to the third evening of The Supplementary School Film Club- this time we start a little earlier so comrades of all ages can join! We are watching A Bug’s Life, selected by anti-facist Trans mutual aid group, Comrades Inc.
"It's a bug-eat-bug world out there, princess. One of those Circle of Life kind of things. Now let me tell you how things are supposed to work: The sun grows the food, the ants pick the food, the grasshoppers eat the food...”
Is A Bug’s Life an anti capitalist film? Let’s discuss together how this family film explores class struggle, group think and community! This SSFC is for all the family, so bring your children, your grandparents, your Aunty!
Comrades Inc are a mutual aid fund and activist collective that organises club evenings, workshops and fundraisers to help queer and trans comrades afford gender-affirming treatments and other essential help around the country. Comrades inc are an intersectional feminists, abolitionist, anti-transphobic, anti-capitalist, anti-fascist collective that work to create safe and brave spaces, meeting places and learning tools for QTBIPOCS, comrades and others who share our opinions and desires for a free and safe future for all.
______
The Supplementary School Film Club is an intersectional film club hosted by artist, Amber Ablett where we prioritise the stories, needs and comfort of those marginalised by our society. We watch films together to look at the intersections of oppressive structures and how different communities tackle and dismantle them.
The SSFC takes direct inspiration from The Black Supplementary School Movement begun in 1960s Britain by West Indian communities to fill the gaps about the breadth of the British experience and history left out by mainstream education. Season Two takes place on a thursday each month for the first six months of the year at Bergen Kjøtt.
