Mer info:
An introductory course to start to build expertise, confidence and networks in sound engineering. Get to know how a sound system works, routines for setting up sound equipment and good practice for creating sound for live events!

GRIP is open to everyone over the age of 18, and we emphasize our aim to welcome more women, non-binary and transgender people in sound technician roles in Bergen’s cultural organisations. No previous experience is necessary.

Instructor: Al Houthoofd (they/he):
Al is working as a freelance sound engineer and stagehand after completing the GRIP course in 2021. He often works at venues such as Østre, Bergen Kunsthall and Bergen Kjøtt – as well as under bigger production companies. In the past three years they’ve picked up a lot of different experience and is now glad to give it back to GRIP through leading this introduction course

About GRIP:
GRIP is an ongoing series of courses to give more people the opportunity to gain practical experience and skills in sound engineering. Women, non-binary and transgender people are strongly underrepresented in this field – in 2022 it was reported that 93% of all technicians in Norway are cis-male. We want to change this!

Since 2021, GRIP has trained 170 people who wanted to gain more knowledge and confidence in sound technology. Flipping the statistic, 92% of our participants are women, non-binary and transgender people, and many are now working as professional sound technicians.

GRIP is a collaborative project between Bergen Kjøtt, BIT Teatergarasjen, Prøverommet, Carte Blanche, AKKS Bergen and sound engineer Irene Bjørke. GRIP is organized with partners in Bergen including Borealis – a festival for experimental music, Landmark / Bergen kunsthall, Østre and Vill Vill Vest and is supported by Sparebanken Vest, Bergen kommune, Kulturrom, Balansekunst and apap-FEMINIST FUTURES (financed by the Creative Europe program in the EU).
